CJ of Bikram Yoga Brighton, on why yoga could change your life for the better:
I could tell you so many facts about Bikram Yoga. Bikram’s 26 postures and two breathing exercises, 45 degrees, the sweat, detoxing through the largest organ of your body, your skin. I am going to recount to you a number of stories of clients. People that have changed their lives, bodies, their whole way of thinking.
I had a call yesterday from a potential client who practises martial arts, specifically kick boxing. She was keen to improve her cardiovascular system. She had heard that Bikram Yoga can do this.
Psoriasis was also a major problem. Often the body cannot detox, subsequently we suffer. Sweating has a major impact on the removal of poisonous toxins that build up in the body causing health issues, therefore Bikram Yoga can ease and improve all health issues.
Carl Cathern started Bikram Yoga on 16 July 2010. He weighed 20 stone, loved his beer and chips and was no way giving them up. During the last year he practised an amazing 224 times in 336 hours. Carl has run out of class to be sick, moaned and groaned… He has dropped three trouser sizes and now weighs 16 stone and can grab his leg from behind, both on the floor and in the air. He walks tall, looks great, and feels so much better. Literally blood, sweat and a lot of tears have brought him to this place.
After only 18 months of Bikram Yoga Ricardo Wehr (pictured above) came eleventh in the International Yoga Asana Championships in Los Angeles in June this year. He was sponsored for the trip by NetDev. John Logsdon, CEO of NetDev, has benefited so much from the yoga he wanted to give something back to the Bikram Yoga community.
John Eynon in his own words says: “This is at least the third time in my life I’ve had real lower back problems. This year it was getting to the point where some days I could hardly walk, I was in agony. However, with the yoga and some osteopathy, it’s getting much better. Sometimes I’m pain free for long periods, walking and just getting about is much easier. Flexibility, particularly in my hips, is a real issue. I can see little improvements, and I’m making progress in small steps with some of the postures. Generally I just feel better. I do concentrate on breathing, and it’s a practice, it’s your time, and it’s about you.
I am way behind everyone else but I’m just concentrating on me, and the mirror! As time out in the week I find it really good at settling my mind and concentration, and getting refocused.
I’ve lost about 20 pounds since the start of the year, through being a little more careful but not going overboard, and I think Bikram Yoga has been a big factor in achieving this. I’m trying to deal with a lifetime of abuse of my body, but I think this time, I am actually going to turn it round!”
